Brooklyn, NY – The University of Valley Forge Patriots Women's Volleyball team captured their first victory of the 2025 season with a commanding 3-0 sweep of Medgar Evers College on Thursday evening at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn. The Patriots dominated all three sets, winning 25-13, 25-14, and 25-10, while improving their record to 1-1 on the young season.
The victory marked a historic milestone for the UVF program as first-year Head Coach Taylor and Assistant Coach Kira earned their inaugural career wins as collegiate volleyball coaches. The coaching duo has worked tirelessly since taking over the program to instill a winning culture and develop the team's competitive foundation.
The Patriots showcased balanced offensive production throughout the match, recording 18 kills on 53 attacks. Mattayah Lyndaker led the team's serving attack with an impressive nine service aces, while Abigail Sumego orchestrated the offense with 16 assists and contributed five aces of her own.
Clarissa Lockman provided steady offensive production with five kills and five service aces, while Unique Castilho demonstrated efficiency at the net, hitting .375 with four kills on eight attacks. Defensively, Hadassah Rivera anchored the back row with 10 digs and six service aces.
The Patriots controlled the match from start to finish, never allowing Medgar Evers to build momentum. UVF's aggressive serving attack proved to be the difference, tallying 27 aces compared to just one for the Cougars. The Patriots also capitalized on opponent errors, as Medgar Evers struggled offensively with a negative .256 hitting percentage.
