17-Run Third Inning Caps Historic Afternoon as Patriots Outscore Yeshiva 36-5 on the Day
PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. — If the first game wasn't enough, Valley Forge made absolutely sure Yeshiva felt the full weight of the afternoon. The Patriots erupted for 24 runs in the doubleheader nightcap, routing Yeshiva 24-2 at UVF Ballpark to complete the sweep and move to 9-6 on the season. The two teams combined for 36 runs on the day, with Valley Forge responsible for all but five of them.
The defining moment came in the bottom of the third inning, when Valley Forge sent 20 batters to the plate and scored 17 runs on seven hits, five walks, three hit batters, and a flurry of Yeshiva errors. The inning featured contributions up and down the lineup: Juan Lopez singled home two, Evelyn Asijah singled home one, Brayden Tunnell drove in two with a single, Joaquin Velez doubled home two, and Albert Fernandez added an RBI single before Yeshiva cycled through three pitchers trying to stop the bleeding.
Juan Lopez was the offensive standout, going 2-for-4 with a walk, four RBI, and three runs scored. Zack Haines went 2-for-2 with two walks and two RBI, and Asijah Evelyn went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Joey Demirjian reached base four times and scored four runs despite just one hit, drawing two walks and getting hit by a pitch. Brayden Tunnell also scored three times and drove in two from the designated hitter spot.
Valley Forge drew 13 walks as a team and benefited from a hit-by-pitch parade, keeping the lineup turning over relentlessly. The Patriots sent 47 batters to the plate across six innings of offense. Gabriel Murphy and Ryan Olmo each contributed run-scoring plays as well, with Olmo delivering a two-run double in the fifth for a pair of insurance runs.
On the mound, Hunter Whitten earned the win (1-0), going five innings and allowing two unearned runs on three hits while striking out four. Valley Forge's defense made things harder on itself with five errors, but Whitten limited the damage throughout.
With the sweep, Valley Forge outscored Yeshiva 36-5 across the doubleheader and heads into the rest of the week at 9-6 on the season.
