PHOENIXVILLE, PA – April 2, 2026 – The University of Valley Forge softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of York (N.Y.) with a 13-4 victory in five innings on Thursday evening at UVF Ballpark, extending their winning streak.
The Patriots dominated the nightcap, scoring 13 runs on 9 hits while showing exceptional plate discipline with 11 walks. Valley Forge's devastating fifth-inning rally featured seven runs that invoked the mercy rule.
Clarissa Lockman earned the win with 1.1 innings of one-run relief, while Harley Wakeman was brilliant in middle relief, striking out 9 batters over 3.2 innings while allowing just three runs.
The Patriots trailed 3-1 entering the bottom of the second inning but responded with a run to cut the deficit to 3-2. After holding York scoreless in the third, Valley Forge exploded for five runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 6-3 lead.
Then came the decisive fifth inning. Valley Forge sent 13 batters to the plate and drew six walks in the frame alone, overwhelming the York pitching staff. Melina Ragotzy delivered the knockout blow with a two-run double, and the Patriots capitalized on every opportunity to score seven runs and end the game.
Marissa Urner and Harley Wakeman each went 2-for-2 at the plate, with Urner collecting a triple and Wakeman adding 2 RBIs. Ragotzy finished 1-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs, while Sierra Brown went 1-for-3 with a triple and 2 runs scored.
Abigail Wood reached base in all four plate appearances (1-for-2, double, 2 walks, HBP) and scored 2 runs, while Joanie Wood went 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored, 2 walks, and a stolen base. Clarissa Lockman contributed an RBI and 3 RBIs on a clutch hit in the fourth inning.
Hannah Rodriguez showed excellent patience at the plate, drawing three walks while scoring a run, and Arianna Harris walked twice and scored a run.
Defensively, Wakeman was overpowering in relief, striking out 9 of the 16 batters she faced over 3.2 innings. The right-hander consistently worked ahead in counts and kept York's hitters off balance with effective off-speed pitches.
York (N.Y.) was led by M. Abreu and F. Howes with one RBI each, but the visitors couldn't contain Valley Forge's relentless offensive attack.
The doubleheader sweep marked a statement performance for the Patriots, who have now won four consecutive games while outscoring opponents 62-26 during the streak. Valley Forge's combination of dominant pitching, explosive offense, and fundamentally sound defense has the team firing on all cylinders early in the conference season.
