Box Score Harris Drives in Pair, Ragotzy Sparks Offense in 4-2 Victory Over Penn State-Scranton
PHOENIXVILLE, PA – March 21, 2026 – Pitcher Harley Wakeman scattered 11 hits over seven complete innings, and the University of Valley Forge offense came through in key moments as the Patriots defeated Penn State-Scranton 4-2 on Friday afternoon at UVF Ballpark to capture their first victory of the season.
Wakeman (1-0) was brilliant in the circle, working efficiently through seven innings while allowing just 2 runs with no walks and a strikeout. The right-hander threw 89 pitches and consistently worked out of trouble, stranding nine Penn State-Scranton runners on base throughout the contest.
The Patriots (1-0) broke through in the third inning with a two-run frame that gave them a lead they would never relinquish. After Arianna Harris drew a walk and Clarissa Lockman followed with another free pass, Sierra Brown delivered the game's first run with an RBI single. Abigail Wood then laced a double to drive in Lockman and give Valley Forge a 2-0 advantage.
Valley Forge added an insurance run in the fourth when Melina Ragotzy singled, stole second base, and came around to score on Harris's second RBI of the game, extending the lead to 3-1.
The Patriots tacked on one more run in the sixth inning when Ragotzy drew a walk, advanced to third on Marissa Urner's single, and scored on Harris's third hit of the game—another RBI single that made it 4-1.
Harris was the offensive star, going 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs and 2 walks, reaching base in all four plate appearances. The second baseman's clutch hitting provided the cushion Wakeman needed to work with confidence.
Ragotzy sparked the offense from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored, 2 walks, and 2 stolen bases. The speedy left fielder reached base in all four plate appearances and created havoc on the basepaths all afternoon.
Wood collected two hits including the key RBI double in the third inning, while Brown added two hits and an RBI. Urner contributed a hit and a walk in the victory.
Penn State-Scranton (0-1) collected 11 hits but couldn't capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities against Wakeman. M. Kelsch went 2-for-4 with a double, while A. Collerman and M. Langdon each had two hits. The Nittany Lions scored single runs in the fourth and seventh innings but couldn't mount a serious rally.
Starting pitcher E. Moyles (0-1) took the loss despite a solid effort, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits over five innings while walking 9 batters. The Patriots' patience at the plate paid dividends as they drew 9 walks as a team, consistently working deep counts and forcing Penn State-Scranton pitchers to throw strikes.
Valley Forge's defense was solid behind Wakeman, committing just one error while turning routine plays into outs. The Patriots' ability to execute in key situations—both offensively and defensively—was the difference in securing their first win of the season.
