Box Score Sunshine, Sand, and a Shutout: Valley Forge Baseball Opens Spring Break Trip With a 5-0 Win

Asijah Dazzles with Complete-Game Shutout as Patriots Blank Baruch in Fort Myers Opener

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Valley Forge baseball wasted no time making a statement on their spring break trip to Florida, defeating Baruch College 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at George Brett Field. Pitcher Evelyn Asijah was masterful in his collegiate debut, tossing a complete-game shutout to earn the victory and improve the Patriots to 3-2 on the season.

Playing under sunny skies with temperatures reaching 86 degrees, Valley Forge put together a methodical offensive performance, racking up 10 hits over seven innings. The Patriots scattered their runs across the game, taking a 1-0 lead in the second, breaking it open with two runs in the fifth, and tacking on insurance runs in the sixth and seventh.

Catcher Chase Timmons led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Center fielder Gabriel Murphy also had a strong day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while scoring a run. Zack Haines added two hits, and right fielder Joey Demirjian drove in two runs and swiped a base. Josh Zollo got the scoring started in the second inning with an RBI single that plated Carson Lengle, who had stolen second moments earlier.

Asijah (1-0) was the story of the afternoon, retiring all 22 batters he faced over seven innings while allowing just four hits, walking one, and striking out four. He induced 14 outs on ground balls and flyouts, keeping Baruch's lineup off-balance throughout. Valley Forge's defense turned in a clean performance behind him, committing zero errors.

Baruch starter Andrew Lapointe (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing three earned runs over five innings. Reliever Ryan Foerst surrendered two more in two innings of relief.

Valley Forge continues their Florida spring break trip with more games on the schedule. The Patriots will look to build on the momentum of this opening victory as they enjoy a stretch of warm-weather competition on the road.
