Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge (UVF) men's baseball team showcased resilience and clutch hitting, rallying to defeat Regent University 9-8 on February 28, 2026, at MSI in a pulse-pounding contest that went down to the wire. This hard-fought victory highlights the Patriots' offensive depth and relief pitching poise, strengthening their early-season standing as they prepare for conference competition. The game captivated fans with explosive innings, timely doubles, and a game-sealing push in the bottom of the eighth.

UVF exploded for 13 hits en route to 9 runs, overcoming an early deficit with a massive six-run fourth inning that flipped the script. Gabriel Murphy led from center field, going 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, a triple, and 2 walks, setting a dynamic pace. Zack Haines powered the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, including 1 run scored and a team-leading 3 RBIs highlighted by a key double. Mickey Tolentino tallied 1-for-3 with 1 run scored and a walk, shortstop Aaron Zapata hustled for 2-for-4, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, and a double, and catcher Tyler Stwarka provided steady defense. Chase Timmons sparked the final rally with a hit-by-pitch that led to his run scored.

Pitching-wise, CJ Fernandez anchored the effort with 6.0 strong innings, surrendering 7 hits and 3 earned runs while issuing 2 walks and 2 strikeouts on 86 pitches. Hunter Whitten encountered turbulence, allowing 2 hits and 4 runs (all earned) with 3 walks in a brief outing marred by a wild pitch, but closer Joaquin Velez (1-0) earned the win by tossing 2.0 innings of relief, permitting 3 hits and 1 earned run with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts on 29 pitches to close the door. UVF capitalized on small ball, including 2 stolen bases and a sacrifice fly, finishing with 9 runs on 13 hits, 3 walks, and just 1 error.

Buoyed by this exhilarating triumph, the UVF men's baseball team sets its sights on upcoming match ups, determined to maintain their momentum and vie for top spots.
