Lebanon, PA – On Saturday, September 6, the Patriots took on the Dutchmen Invitational hosted by Lebanon Valley College. For the Women, this was their second 5k of the season, after their debut at the Bryn Mawr Invitational last weekend. And for the Men, this race marked their first 8k of the season, and many of their first-ever career 8ks.
On the Men's side, we saw great effort on the course. Our seniors,
Paul Nadrowski and
Nathaniel Gale led the charge with strong times of 30:35.1 and 31:05.3, respectively. The other male Patriots crossed the line in this order:
Bernardo McGraw (Freshman; 35:57.9),
Javier Soto Rodriguez (36:21.0),
Dawson Bell (Freshman; 40:25.6), Benjamin (Rhys) Schoonmaker (40:45.1),
Cole Cherry (Freshman; 45:38.9), and
Everett Flower (Freshman, 46:11.7).
For the Women, we saw 5k PRs across the board Every single one of our women set personal bests when they crossed the finish line today. This display of perseverance and grit did not go unnoticed as they set record times! Our female Patriots crossed the line in this order:
Sofia Troland (21:41.5),
Ava Mello (Freshman; 26:16.8),
Madison Naples (Freshman; 27:22.6),
Mariah Lyon (29:32.9),
Mona Koko (Freshman; 30:23.2), and
Grace Schmidheini (Freshman; 32:50.3).
From our 4-year Senior and Top Female Patriot,
Sofia Troland reflected on today's race with the following:
It's a joy to be a unified team, encouraging and supporting one another through the difficulties that this sport brings. Today's invitational was a big step for a lot of our newer runners, and I am beyond proud of each one of them for persevering, pushing through the discomfort, and running their best times for the glory of God.
Cross country is a physically and mentally tough sport and you have to be constantly combating the lies the enemy tells you as you willingly put yourself through pain. It had been a few years since I got a 5k personal best but today I had a goal. I thank the Lord that though I felt defeated in the middle of the race, He carried me through in His strength to reach that goal.
Jesus says it best in 2 Corinthians 12:9,
"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."
