Patriot's Sweeps Opponents in Dominant Double Header Performance

Valley Forge Softball went up against Penn State Scranton in a doubleheader on Thursday March 14th. Sweeping the doubleheader in dominant fashion, 6-0 and 10-1.

The first game saw Laura Medio starting in the circle, coming off a strong outing against Sarah Lawrence. She started this one strong, keeping Scranton scoreless in the top of the 1st. The bottom of the 1st saw an early lead for Valley Forge, created by a couple key doubles by Harley Wakeman and Keegan Thompson. Giving the Patriots a 3-0 lead. Two more strong innings by Laura Medio kept the Patriots in the lead, but they fell quietly in the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd innings. The bottom of the 4th saw two runners reach base for Valley Forge on errors before a Christina Stanford single scored both to bring about a 5-0 lead. Another clean top half brought about the bottom half of the fifth, but the Patriots were unable to score. Scranton was able to manage a couple hits in the top of the 6th, but Laura Medio cleaned up the mess and got out of the inning without giving up a run. An early single by Christina Stanford and a couple walks brought Harley Wakeman to the plate where a slap to center caused an error while bringing in another run, increasing the Valley Forge lead to 6-0. Laura Medio was able to close out the game, finishing with two strikeouts in the top of the 7th inning!

Harley Wakeman led the team in hits (2) and RBI (2). While Laura Medio went 7 innings with 0 Earned Runs on only 4 hits allowed.

Harley Wakeman got the ball in game two for the Patriots. She tossed a clean top half of the 1st, giving up only 1 hit. The bottom half saw Valley Forge once again take an early 2-0 lead thanks to help from a Caitlyn Fisher single and Morgan Bieler triple. A couple more strikeouts in the top of the 2nd sent the Patriots to the bottom half where they were able to double their lead on four singles in the inning. The top of the 3rd was another scoreless inning for Harley Wakeman as she continued her dominance. The bottom half saw Valley Forge score 6 runs off of multiple singles, a double by Laura Medio, and a Marissa Urner triple. Totaling 6 hits in the inning while taking a 10-0 lead. A clean 4th inning from both sides brought about a top of the 5th where Scranton started with a double to right field. Followed by a single to left, scoring their first run of the game. The game ended after the top of the 5th, with Valley Forge winning 10-1.

Harley Wakeman once again led the team in RBI (4) and tied for the lead in hits (2). She also pitched 5 strong innings, giving up 1 earned run on 5 hits with 4 strikeouts.

The Patriots next game is on Saturday March 16th against York College.
