Phoenixville, PA – In celebration of Senior Day, the University of Valley Forge Baseball team welcomed the Eagles of St. Elizabeth University to DeSanno Field for two 7-inning games. Valley Forge took the first game 12-11, while the Eagles claimed the second frame 12-4.
GAME ONE: 12-11 VALLEY FORGE
Scoreless through the first, St. Elizabeth cracked their bats in the second with 4 runs on 3 hits. The Eagels added two additional runs to the board in the third. Valley Forge found themselves on the board in the bottom half of the third as Manny Caballero crossed home plate on a passed ball. Leading 6-1, St. Elizabeth put up another run in the fifth. However, the Patriots responded with three runs from an
Allan Goodwin homer to only trail by 2. The Eagles were able to capitalize off of three Patriot errors with scoring three runs on 2 hits. Valley Forge put their rally caps on and notched 5 runs on 2 hits, powered by a grand slam from
Thomas Bost, his first ever collegiate homerun.
Only up by a solo run, St. Elizabeth added an insurance run in the top half of the seventh to lead by 2, but it wouldn't be enough as the Patriots rounded up 3 runs on 3 hits, and an error from the Eagles. The Patriots secured their win with a walk-off hit from lone senior,
Jeffery Espinal.
Valley Forge notched 12 runs on 12 hits and 10 RBI's. Bost earned three hits, while Goodwin, Gonzales, Delgado, and
Chandler Beard earned two hits apiece.
Espinal received the win on the mound.
GAME TWO: 12-4 ST. ELIZABETH
Both teams weren't able to produce any runs in the first three innings, but the Eagles broke their drought in the fourth with 3 runs. Valley Forge put up a single run in bottom half on a wild pitch. Up by 2, St. Elizabeth collected 5 runs on 4 hits in the fifth. The Patriots responded with 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 Eagle errors. St. Elizabeth cracked the bat in both the seventh and eighth inning to take home the 12-4 win.
Allan Goodwin collected two hits, while Bost, Caballero, and Espinal tallied one apiece.
Valley Forge will look to close their season with a win as they travel to Chambersburg, PA on May 1
st for a conference double-header against the Phoenix of Wilson College for a 12:00 p.m. start time.
