Chambersburg, PA – The University of Valley Forge Baseball team closed out the 2021 season with a conference double-header against the Phoenix of Wilson College. Despite a close second game, the Phoenix secured both victories with scores of 6-0, and 7-3.
GAME ONE: 6-0 WILSON
Scoreless through three, Wilson woke the offensive up with 5 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the fourth. The Phoenix added an insurance run in the fifth to close out the game 6-0.
Despite the loss on the mound, Goodwin collected 4 strikeouts in 4-innings pitched.
GAME TWO: 7-3 WILSON
For just the fourth time this season, the Patriots added a run in the first-inning powered by an RBI to right field from Darrell Soto-Diaz. Wilson responded with a run in the bottom half of the second to even the score at one run a-piece. The Phoenix struck again in the bottom of the fourth with 2 runs on 2 hits. Down 3-1, the Patriots took a run back on 3 hits.
Kaben Lentzner started the inning with a double to left. Lentzner advanced to third on hard hit single from
George Delgado.
Thomas Bost stepped up to the plater and nailed a single to center, score Lentzner and advancing Delgado to second. However, after a groundout double-play, the Phoenix stopped the Patriot's rally. Wilson notched 2 additional runs on 2 hits and 1 Patriot error to lead 5-2. The Phoenix added to their lead yet again with 2 runs on 1 hit and 2 Valley Forge errors for the 7-2 lead.
In their last efforts, Valley Forge gathered 1 run on 1 hit on 1 error in the seventh-inning for a 7-3 final score in favor of the Phoenix.
