Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Softball team hosted the Giants of Keystone College for a conference double-header on Saturday afternoon. Valley Forge dropped both games with a 2-12 final score.
GAME ONE: 12-2 KEYSTONE
After two full scoreless innings, Keystone opened the flood gates with 7 runs on just 4 hits in the third. Valley Forge put a mark on the board in the bottom half powered by an earned walk from
Destynie Blythers. Blythers stole second to find scoring position, and advanced to third of a fielder's choice.
Laura Medio stepped up to the plate to tally a hard hit single to second.
Jazmin Gruda swapped spots with Medio for a pinch-runner and stole second on the next pitch. Blythers was able to cross home on the throw to second.
Up 7-1, the Giants extended their lead by scoring 5 runs on 7 hits in the top of the fourth. Hoping to rally, the Patriots answered with just 1 run on Keystone error for a 12-2 final.
Jordyn Clarke and Blythers claimed the two hits.
GAME TWO: 12-2 KEYSTONE
Keystone struck first, scoring 3 runs on 4 hits in the first inning. However, Valley Forge cut the Giants' lead to one after they scored 2 runs on 1 hit and 2 Keystone errors in the bottom half of the second.
Only leading by 1 run, the Giants added 2 additional runs in the third on 4 hits. Valley Forge committed two fielding errors in the fourth to allow Keystone to collect 1 run on 0 hits. The Giants added to their lead with 6 runs on just 3 hits and 3 Patriot errors. Unfortunately, the Patriots were unable to respond, forcing a 12-2 final score.
Jordyn Clarke and
Abigail Foor earned the two hits in the second frame.
Valley Forge will be back in action on Thursday, April 22
nd as they travel to Bryn Mawr, PA to take on the Ravens of Rosemont College. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., with the second game to follow.
