Delhi, N.Y. – Despite an energetic third-quarter, the Patriots suffered their third consecutive loss to the Broncos of SUNY Delhi, 68-61. With this loss, Valley Forge moves to 3-10 on the season (1-1 ACAA).
Amaya Brown led the Patriots with 17 points, her seventh double-digit contest.
Cayleen Conrad tallied 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists, while
Carlee Conrad collected 13 points of her own.
Alea Flowers and
Megan Firth dished out 9 points each, a season-high for Firth.
"We started off slow, and dug ourselves in an 18-point deficit," head coach
Gretchen LeVan shared. "
Megan Firth came from off the bench and sparked a comeback and built momentum to take a 1-point lead down the stretch, but it wasn't enough to take the game. However, I am proud of the effort, and now we have a week to prepare for our next tough opponent."
The Broncos opened the game with a 6-0 run, and would push their lead to 11 points halfway through the first-quarter. The Patriots came within a 3 points after a trey ball from
Cayleen Conrad, but Delhi closed out the first stanza with a three-pointer and a free-throw to secure a 7-point lead.
Delhi continued their momentum, gathering an 8-0 run and extending their lead to a game-high 18 points. The Patriots responded with a 10-2 run to trail the Broncos 34-22 at the half.
The third-quarter belonged to that Patriots as they outscored the Broncos 18-8, limiting the Broncos offense to a 13.3% from the field to trail by only 2 points.
Both squads fought for the advantage, trading the lead eight times before the Broncos closed out the quarter on an 8-0 run, claiming the 68-61 win.
As a team, the Patriots went 23-71 from the field (32.4%), 8-34 from behind the arc (23.5%), and 7-9 from the stripe (77.8%). The Broncos outrebounded the Patriots 50-34.
Valley Forge will look to bounce back on Saturday, February 1
st as they travel to Gywnedd Mercy, PA to face the Griffins at 1 p.m.
