Pittsburgh, PA – The University of Valley Forge Women's Basketball team (3-7, 1-0) traveled to Steel City for a two-game road stint this past weekend. The Patriots faced the Cougars of Chatham University (10-4, 4-3) on Saturday afternoon, ultimately falling 73-45.
Valley Forge was led by
Carlee Conrad who dished out 15 points, followed by Amaya brown who collected 14 points, 3 assists, and 5 steals.
Cayleen Conrad tallied yet another double-digit game with 10 points.
"We tried to slow down their impressive shooting percentage by slowing our pace," coach LeVan added. It hindered us offensively because we were out of rhythm. We eventually settled back to being us and out-scored them in the fourth-quarter. I am very proud of our attitude and effort. Hats off to Chatham for their impressive outside shooting."
With a lack of numbers, the Patriots struggled out the gates, allowing the Cougars to secure an 8-0 run. Valley Forge attempted to keep the score close, only trailing by 10 points after the first-quarter.
The second-quarter started in favor of the Cougars as they rallied a quick 11-2 spurt. Chatham's lead would increase to a notable 26-point lead before entering the locker room.
With a tired Patriot squad, the Cougars took complete control in the second-half, finding their largest lead of the afternoon at 42 points. With the time expiring, the Patriots showed relentless effort as they continued to power their way through a tough Chatham team. However, the Cougars would walk away with a 73-45 final score, making it their fourth consecutive win.
With a slower offensive, Valley Forge hit 9-29 from the field (31%), 2-15 from three-point land (13.3%), and 10-11 from the stripe (90.9%).
The Cougars were quick to crash the boards as they outrebounded the Patriots 37-10.
The Patriots will take a 6-day break before they travel to Delhi, NY to face the Broncos of SUNY Delhi at 1 p.m.
