Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | uvfpatriots

Conrad Leads Patriots Past Cannoneers

Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Women's Basketball team built a solid 18-point lead in the first-half against conference foe Pratt Institute. With every Patriot scoring, Valley Forge was able to control the pace for a 76-60 victory over the Cannoneers. With the win, Valley Forge improved to 3-7 on the season, and 1-0 in ACAA play.

Sophomore Cayleen Conrad shot lights out as she led the way with 25 points, her fourth game on the season with at least 20 points. Carlee Conrad dished out 13 with 7 boards, while Alea Flowers collected her third consecutive double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Amaya Brown and Kaitlyn Hess combined for 20 points as they each tallied 10 each.

"Going into this game, we knew that they had a significant height advantage on us," stated head coach Gretchen LeVan. "We devised a game plan to ensure that would not be the reason we lost, but we knew we needed to come up big offensively. I felt Cayleen Conrad stepping up hitting 5-7 from the three, another double-double from Alea Flowers, and Carlee Conrad knocking down shots to seal the game down the stretch was huge for us."

After senior Kaitlyn Hess opened the game with a shot from three-point land, the Patriots wouldn't look back as they outscored the Cannoneers 26-8 in the first-quarter.

Amaya Brown, Alea Flowers, and the Conrad duo kept the Patriots at ease in the second-quarter, combining for 14 points to give Valley Forge an 18-point advantage at the half.

Valley Forge took their largest lead of the game as they led Pratt by an impressive 27 points with 2:56 remaining in the third-quarter. However, the Cannoneers were able to tally a 9-0 run to end the quarter.

In the final stanza, although Pratt powered an offensive spark, finding an 11-0 run and outscoring the Patriots 17-15, it wouldn't be enough as the Patriots claimed the 16-point win over the Cannoneers.

Valley Forge forced 21 turnovers, allowing the Patriots to dish out 25 points. The Patriots posted a 49-41 benefit on rebounds.

The Patriots will travel to Steel City to face the Cougars of Chatham University on Saturday, January 18th at 4 p.m., and the Pioneers of Point Park University on Sunday, January 19th at 12 p.m.
