Phoenixville, PA – A trio of first-half goals from Jacquelyn Smith, and
Haven Mayhew (2) paced Valley Forge (1-6) to their first win of the season over The King's College (0-4).
Both teams were eager to get the ball rolling as they contested eight total shots within the first 16 minutes of the match. However, the Lions would pounce on top from a score in the far post at the 16
th minute. The Patriots would quickly respond a short four minutes later with an open goal from Jacquelyn Smith, tying the match 1-1. Valley Forge maintained power on the offensive end with eight shot attempts within the next five minutes of play. The Patriots would then take the lead with just 7 minutes left of the half on a goal from
Haven Mayhew, assisted by Jacquelyn Smith. With just 42 seconds remaining in the half, the Patriots put pressure on the Lions defense with another goal from
Haven Mayhew, assisted by
Molly Begin and
Brandy Del Gallego.
Although the Patriots secured a 3-1 lead, they continued to attack the goal, putting off 23 shots. On the defensive end, defenders
Megan Firth and
Jordyn Clarke kept the Lions in check, only allowing 3 attempts. The Patriots were able to protect their 3-1 lead for victory.
After only taking 7 shots in their match on Saturday, the Patriots split the sea with 48 shot attempts, outshooting the Lions 48-13. The Patriots also had a 10-4 advantage on corner kicks.
Valley Forge will travel to Langhorne, PA to face the Highlanders of Cairn University on Thursday, September 23
