Phoenixville, PA – Despite a pair of late goals from Haven Mayew, and
Giselle Rojas, the Patriots (0-5) weren't able to close the scoring gap on the Nittany Lions of Penn State Mont Alto (2-4), falling 5-2.
With a scoreless game in the first twenty minutes, both teams had the opportunity to be on the scoreboard as 16 shot attempts were taken between the two. However, the Lions would jump ahead from a goal in the 21
st minute. A few minutes later, the Lions would keep their energy as they went on to score three additional goals within three minutes (28:33, 29:12, 30:32), extending their lead 4-0.
In similar fashion, the second-half remained scoreless for the first twenty minutes, until Penn State struck once again in the 64
th minute. With the Patriots down 5-0, they would attempt to rally back, as junior
Haven Mayhew kneed a goal on a bounce back off the crossbar from
Cayleen Conrad at the 76
th minute. The Patriots would add to their score two minutes later as sophomore
Giselle Rojas posed a shot from the side of the 18-yard box, cutting the Lions' lead 5-2. With only twelve minutes left of the match, the Patriots weren't able to come closer as Penn State held off for a 5-2 victory.
The Nittany Lions finished with a 28-23 shot advantage, with 14 of those shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Ashley Depointe completed the afternoon with 9 saves.
