Second-Half Spark Pushes the Patriots Past Mont Alto

Phoenixville, PA – Valley Forge (4-2) scored a pair of second-half pieces while defending their home turf to score a 2-0 victory over the Nittany Lions of Penn State Mont Alto (5-2).

"Today's win was so special for our team", head coach John Badidis added. "We played to honor our brother, and teammate Josh, who could not be with is today. We played with our hearts and it was a joy to watch."

With two talented and aggressive teams, the entire first-half was scoreless. The Patriots attempted eleven shots, while the Lions were able to dish out six.

With the second-half approaching, the Patriots were able to find common ground with one another as the next forty-five minutes would be played with straight passion. In the first three minutes of the second-half, freshman Mathurin Allawai positioned a perfect ball to the back of the net, breaking the tie, and creating a 1-0 lead. The Patriots would extend their lead only two minutes later as senior Colton Swan scored his second goal of the season. Out of desperation, the Lions would collect eleven shot attempts but the Patriots defense remained steady and organized as they would not allow the Lions to score, handing Penn State their second loss of the season.

Penn State held an 18-17 shot advantage over the Patriots, while the Patriots posed a 6-3 edge on corners. The shutout for De'Andre Rogers would be his first clean sheet of his career and the first of the season for the Patriots. Rogers finished with eleven saves.

Valley Forge will be back in action on Saturday, September 21st, and Sunday, September 22nd, as they road trip to New York, NY, to face conference opponent, Pratt Institute and John Jay College.
