Front Royal / Roanoke, VA –The University of Valley Forge Women's Soccer team took a weekend trip to Virginia to take on Christendom College on Friday, and Hollins University on Saturday, September 14
th. The Patriots lost both matches, falling short 4-1 to Christendom, and 3-1 to Hollins.
Match One: Valley Forge 1, Christendom 4
The Royals of Christendom College defeated the Patriots 4-1 on their first stop of the weekend. As a team, Valley Forge tallied 12 total shots, with 6 shots on goal.
The evening looked promising as the Patriots scored first with a score from sophomore
Cayleen Conrad, assisted by senior
Briana Spellman. The tally for Conrad would be her first of the season. However, the Royals were able to create more opportunities as they found the back of the net in the 21

thminute, finalizing the score 4-1.
With the Royals generating 20 shots, junior
Jordyn Clarke made 8 saves for her first appearance in goal of the 2019 campaign.
Match Two: Valley Forge 1, Hollins 3
Despite a late goal from junior
Haven Mayhew, the Patriots failed to leave Virginia with a win as Hollins rallied together, scoring three goals over the Patriots for a 3-1 final.
From the first kickoff, the match was quite physical as each team posted six fouls. The first half remained scoreless until the 35
thminute, where the Green and Gold scored a goal pushed from a corner. Less than two minutes later, Hollins got through the Patriots defense yet again and recorded their second goal of the match at 36:50.
The Green and Gold continued their pace as they scored their final goal of the evening at 55:33. However, down 3-0, the Patriots showed aggressiveness in the second half as they were able to collect nine shot attempts. The lone goal for the Patriots came from junior
Haven Mayhew, as she was able to build off of a hustle play.

Ashley Depointe finished with five saves.
"There were some strong second halves of play, but not enough to get the result this weekend," associate head coach
Kelsey Morrison said. "There were good moments, and we will build off of this and move forward."
The Patriots will be back in action at home as they welcome Penn State Mont Alto to Phoenixville on Tuesday, September 17
th. The match is set for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
