Langhorne, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Soccer team (3-2) faced the Highlanders of Cairn University (2-3) on Wednesday, September 11
th. The Highlanders blanked the Patriots for a 7-0 win
.
"This match was a reality check for our team", head coach
John Badidis shared. "We went in over-confident, and unfocused which led us to a shut-out. However, I thought that we responded well after the match, and we understand that we still have a lot of work to do as a team if we expect to compete at this level."
The Highlanders demanded immediate control, striking in only the 9
th minute of the contest. Minutes later, the Highlanders would find another scoring opportunity, changing the scoreboard to 2-0. At the 20
th minute, Cairn created a goal off of a corner kick, making that their third score of the contest. As the first half was coming to a close, the Highlanders broke open with another tally at the 40
th minute. The Patriots were only able to produce one shot attempt in the first 45 minutes of play.
The Highlanders would start the second half off hot as they scored within the first 4 minutes, setting the score 5-0. The Patriots would back down as they allowed two additional Cairn goals at the 81
st, and 85
th minute, ending the match with a final score of 7-0 in favor of Cairn.
The Highlanders posted a 30-2 shot advantage and a 9-1 benefit on corners.
De'Andre Rodgers finished the contest with 10 saves in goal.
The Patriots will take on the Nittany Lions of Penn State Mont Alto back at home on Tuesday, September 17
th at 4:30 p.m.
