Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Soccer team suffered its first loss of the season with a 6-1 defeat against The King's College (NY).
"It was a hard fought battle today," coach
John Badidis shared. "Credit to The King's College for outworking us the majority of the game; we had our moments, but overall we need to be better."
The King's College struck first as they scored in the fourth minute of the game, creating a 1-0 lead. The Lions would increase their lead 2-0 with another goal at 19:11. The score remained just that as the first-half came to a close.
The Patriots started strong in the second-half as they made their appearance on the board by a remarkable upper left 90 score from
Mathurin Allawai at 49:55, closing the scoring gap 2-1. However, that wouldn't be enough as the Lions would break open and score four additional goals in the second-half. The Lions posted a 28-5 shot advantage.
Although the Patriots lost, Valley Forge goalkeeper,
De'Andre Rogers had an outstanding effort between the pipes with a career high fourteen saves in his 90 minutes of play.
"De'Andre was very impressive today," Badidis said. "Although he did not get the result he was looking for, he should be very proud with the way he played."
With this loss, the Patriots move to 1-1-0 on the season. Valley Forge will look to get back in the winning column as they travel to play Penn State Hazleton on Wednesday, September 4
th at 7 p.m.
