Elizabethtown, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Basketball team dropped their first road contest of the season to the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College for an 88-65 final score.
Freshman
Joshua Hosey led the Patriots from the bench, chipping in a career-high 12 points.
Valley Forge struggled out of the gates, allowing Elizabethtown to gather a quick 10-point advantage. The Blue Jays would continue their offensive spurt to gain a 16-point lead. The Patriots would attempt a first-half comeback powered by a steal and fast-break layup from first-year
Mauro Fernandez, however with Blue Jays capped off the last nine minutes with a 20-6 run, entering the locker room with a 24-point benefit over the Patriots.
With the second-half in motion, Elizabethtown challenged the Patriot's defense, extending their lead to a game-high 30 points. The Blue Jays would go on to snap the Patriot's two game win-streak with an 88-65 final.
As a team, Valley Forge went 23-68 from the field (33.8%), while going 6-26 from behind the arc (23.1%). The Patriots gathered a season-low 61.9% from the charity stripe, hitting 13-21.
"We came out completely flat and weren't able to play at all," head coach
DJ Damazo noted. "I think we somewhat found our groove in the second-half, but it just wasn't enough to overcome our poor first-half. We will get back to work and get ready for Saturday."
The Patriots will return to Phoenixville on Saturday, December 7
th as they host the Panthers of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
