Patriots Post 118-103 Win Over Bobcats

Phoenixville, PA – Another strong performance from Valley Forge allows six Patriots to notch double-digits in the win against the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton on Wednesday night.

Aaron Hill led the Patriots with 33 points, going perfect at the line (10-10). Throughout five games, Hill is currently averaging a notable 29.4 points per game. Owen Bradford added a new career-high 22 points, while Matthew Altamirano notched 16. Bennie Howard Jr. dished out 15 points, going 2-4 from the three-point line and 5-9 from the field. Derian Bradford had his first double-double of his rookie season as he pulled away with 11 points and 12 rebounds, as well as leading the team with five assists. Bradford was followed by Steven Eng who secured 10 points in the win.

"Obviously it feels good to get a win, but I thought it was the worst we looked all season," third-year head coach DJ Damazo shared. "We worked really hard the last couple of days in practice to try and fix some things and I think it hurt us in terms of energy and pace, which is completely on me. I'm really proud of my guys' heart and the way they kept their composure when they made a run. We had several guys step up down the stretch, and we were able to put them away at the free-throw line."

Although the Bobcats struck first with an easy layup, the game was in favor of the Patriots for the entire first-half. The Patriots were quickly powered by a jumper from Derian Bradford, a layup from Hill and a trey ball from Steven Eng. Valley Forge was lights out in the first-half, hitting 62.5% from the field (25-40), 56.3% from behind the arc (9-16), and 91.7% from the line (11-12). With such a dominance on offense, the Patriots entered half-time with a 23-point benefit over the Bobcats.

With a comfortable 70-47 lead, Valley Forge slightly extended their lead with an Owen Bradford layup and three ball. The Patriots would gain their largest lead of the night (28) from a fast-break Joshua Hosey layup. However, the Bobcats were just warming up as they began to steadily chip away at the lead. Bryant & Stratton picked up an 18-0 run, crippling the Patriots advantage to only 10 points. The Bobcats were sparked by junior Aaron Burton as he went 9-12 from the field, and 2-2 from the three-point line, collecting a total of 20 points.

With twelve minutes remaining in the game, the Patriots made a quick 5-0 run, making the score 88-73. However, the Bobcats would find momentum once again and capitalize off of missed shots. Bryant & Stratton found themselves only down 5 after a three ball and a pair of made free-throws. Valley Forge would put a stop to the run as sophomore Bennie Howard Jr. drained two jumpers and a step-back trey ball. The Patriots would go on to secure the victory at the free-throw line, hitting 8-8 within the last five minutes of play.

The Patriots will welcome the Cougars of Medgar Evers College on Saturday, November 23rd for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
