Patriots Fade Late in 107-93 Loss

Phoenixville, PA – The Patriots welcomed head coach DJ Damazo's alma mater, Geneva College, and his little brother, Noah Damazo to Phoenixville on Saturday afternoon. Valley Forge was able to gather a 20-point lead within the first-half, but the Golden Tornadoes would fire up a comeback led by Ethan Moose who earned a double-double with 27 points and 15 rebounds, as well as Noah Damazo who drained 24 points and came down with 9 rebounds of his own.

The Patriots were led by Aaron Hill with 29 points, his fourth consecutive game scoring double digits, and 16th of his career. Bennie Howard Jr. also had a solid performance, scoring 15 points, followed by freshman Mauro Fernandez with a career-high 14 points.

"We knew going into the game that we had to play at our temp in order to be successful against Geneva," head coach DJ Damazo shared. "We were able to do that for a large part of the game, but not down the stretch of either half."

With an early weekend game, the fans did not disappoint. The Patriots started the game with two clutch three balls from Aaron Hill, followed by a layup from Steven Eng, assisted by Owen Bradford. Bradford would go on to hit two consecutive jumpers, giving Valley Forge a 5-point lead. Now up 17-14, the Patriots would begin to increase their lead with a shot from behind the arc by Mauro Fernandez. Valley Forge would go on an 11-2 run, finding themselves up by 20 points. However, the Tornadoes would produce a run fueled by Noah Damazo. With 01:34 remaining in the first-half, the Tornadoes found themselves trailing the Patriots by only 1 until Damazo secured an offensive board and put back a bucket, giving the Tornadoes the lead before entering the locker room.

Finding their way back from a 20-point deficit, the Golden Tornadoes were energized in the second-half. Geneva was able to strike first with a three-pointer from Ethan Moose. The Patriots responded with a jumper from Owen Bradford before Geneva would earn a 7-point advantage. As Valley Forge began to chip away at the lead, it would become a back-and-forth game until the 10th minute where Geneva gained control. Valley Forge cut down Geneva's lead to only 3 at 03:52, but the Tornadoes were able to hold on for a 107-93 final score as the Patriots could not produce offensively.

Geneva added 19 off of second chance points, and 62 total points in the paint.

The Patriots will face the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton Liverpool at home on Wednesday, November 20th at 7 p.m.
