Langhorne, PA – The Patriots cruised to an 81-51 road victory over the Highlanders of Cairn University Tuesday night in Mason Activity Center. In the win, senior
Alea Flowers earned a notable double-double, scoring a career-high 26 points with 11 rebounds, as well as collecting 8 steals.
"After our loss at Misericordia, we needed to fight to find our identity," head coach
Gretchen LeVan added. "We knew Cairn had a height advantage on us, so we needed to not let them get into a comfortable pace. We were able to force 41 turnovers with
Alea Flowers leading the way with 8 steals."
Junior
Amaya Brown notched an additional career-high 21 points, going 3-6 from three-point land, and recording 6 steals of her own. Brown was followed by
Carlee Conrad who dished out 12 points on the night.
The offense was sparked early as the Patriots started the night with a trey ball from sophomore
Cayleen Conrad. Valley Forge would go on to hit a trio of three-pointers ending the first-quarter with a safe 24-7 advantage. Valley Forge would keep their comfortable lead from 14 points in the paint, ending the first-half with a 23-point benefit. With the second-half in full swing, the Patriots were powered by a couple fast break opportunities, closing out the third-quarter with a 39-point lead. The Patriots were able to shut down any potential Highlander run, claiming their first win of the season with a 81-51 final score.
Although Valley Forge was outrebounded by Cairn 46-36, the Patriots were able to capitalize off of 41 Highlander turnovers, scoring a total of 45 points.
Valley Forge will be back in action at home on Friday, November 15
th as they welcome the Ravens of Rosemont College for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
