Phoenixville, PA – The Patriots welcomed the Ravens of Rosemont College to Phoenixville on Friday evening. However, with a solid double-double performance from Rosemont's Ke'Alohilani Naone-Carter, Valley Forge came up short for an 88-81 final score. Naone-Carter dropped 35 points while coming down with 20 rebounds.
"We had a slow start and struggled to get into rhythm offensively," head coach
Gretchen LeVan noted. "Defensively, although we forced 49 turnovers, we still struggled to slow down their game changer. Overall, I am proud in how we never stopped fighting; we will learn from this on all levels and be better because of it."
With the game in full swing, each team found it difficult to find momentum as they both committed numerous turnovers. Down 17-12 with two minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Patriots were not able to find a flow, missing two jumpers and turning the ball over three times. The Ravens were able to close out the first on a 5-point run.
Only down 5, Valley Forge would shorten the Raven's lead by a pair of made free throws from senior
Carlee Conrad. The game would remain tight in score until the last five minutes of the second-quarter as the Ravens were able to capitalize at the line from Patriot fouls. Valley Forge would cut the lead down to 8 as junior
Haven Mayhew secured a steal to hit
Amaya Brown on the fast-break at the buzzer.
In similar fashion, the third-quarter would consist of the Ravens attempting to extend their lead and the Patriots staying within a close radius.
Cayleen Conrad had an impressive third-quarter, dropping 10 points in effort of making a comeback.
With Rosemont leading the Patriots 70-58 as they entered the fourth-quarter, the Ravens would get hot offensively, extending their lead to 22. However, the Patriots would not back down as
Amaya Brown sparked a 20-5 run for the Patriots.
Cayleen Conrad contributed with back-to-back trey balls followed by a three-pointer from
Amaya Brown. Although the Patriots closed the 22-point gap, it wasn't enough as the Ravens escaped Phoenixville with an 88-81 victory.
Sophomore
