Phoenixville, PA – For the second time in program history, the University of Valley Forge Women's Basketball team faced the Cougars of Misericordia University on Friday night. The Patriots fell to the Cougars in their season home opener 41-93.
The Patriots were led by senior
Carlee Conrad who gathered 10 points, followed by first-year
Shaelynn Newborn with 8 points in 20 minutes of play.
Misericordia got off to a hot start, creating an early 26-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Cougars continued to dominate the court, finishing at the rim for a total of 50 points in the paint alone. Additionally, with a solid squad, the Cougars were able to score an impressive 40 points off of bench points. With a consistent press, the Cougars secured the 93-41 victory.
Due to the Patriots having a hard time finding offensive rhythm, the Cougars were able to force 26 turnovers, which resulted in 24 points for the Cougars.
As a team, Valley Forge shot a lone 17.4% from behind the arc, while Misericordia earned a 36.8% (7-19).
Valley Forge will look to bounce back as they travel to Langhorne, PA for a road contest against the Highlanders of Cairn University on Tuesday, November 12
th at 7 p.m.
