Tigers Pounce on Patriots at Home

Phoenixville, PA – Despite a first-half goal from Cayleen Conrad, the Patriots weren't able to hold on to hope as they fell 5-1 to NCAA Division II opponent, Lincoln University on Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Patriots move to 3-9 on the season.

With a promising start, the Patriots and Lions battled it out for possession, each dishing out attempts on goal. However, the Lions were lifted by a goal at 25:53, giving Lincoln the 1-0 advantage. Valley Forge would show a counterattack effort, eventually finding the back of the net from a Cayleen Conrad score, tying the match 1-1. Shortly after, the Lions would edge a run to score off of a corner, taking back the lead 2-1 to end the first-half.

As the second-half begun, the Patriots were leaping for any scoring opportunity, but the Lions defense stood tall. The scoreboard would change yet again as Lincoln sunk another goal at 56:05, extending their lead to 3-1. The Patriots gathered poise as the Conrad duo would press offensively, gathering a few shot attempts but could not surpass the Lions keeper. At 68:01, Lincoln struck their fourth score of the evening, giving Kenya Davis a hat trick. The Lions were able to secure their fifth and final goal of the evening at 77:06, finalizing the match 5-1.

"Unfortunately, we were not able to capitalize on a few key opportunities in the first-half, we struggled to find the available space," associated head coach Kelsey Morrison stated. "Overall, we showed good effort, but we need to work on finishing."

Lincoln posted a 48-20 shot benefit, with 10-1 on corners.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Depointe made a career-high 23 saves on the match, including a save on a penalty kick.

Valley Forge will be back in action next week as they travel to Rosemont, PA to face the Ravens of Rosemont College on Thursday, October 17th at 4 p.m.
