Schuylkill Haven, PA – The University of Valley Forge suffered a 3-0 loss to the Nittany Lions of Penn State Schulykill on Thursday evening. The Lions (9-7) grabbed the match from the Patriots (3-14) in set scores of 25-10, 27-25, 25-20.
Sophomore
Mariah Straker led the team in kills (5), with
Kaitlyn Hess dishing out 8 assists and collecting 3 kills herself. Defensively, libero
Melanie-Ann Torres had a team-high 14 digs, followed by
Kaitlyn Hess (9), and
Jasmine Vargas (6).
As a team, the Patriots collected a .039 attacking percentage, tallying 13 kills out of 51 total attempts. Valley Forge would end the match with 4 aces, 3 blocks, and 35 digs. However, that would not be enough as the Lions collected a .183 clip, only committing 11 errors out of their 26 kills and 82 total attempts.
"The match started off as a rough battle," head coach
Jessica Rink said. "Although we didn't come out on top, we were able to get it together for a pretty competitive game."
Looking ahead, the Patriots will travel to Mont Alto, PA on Sunday, October 5
th to face the Nittany Lions of Penn State Mont Alto at 1 p.m.
