Phoenixville, PA – A second-half goal from
Jacquelyn Smith propelled the Patriots (3-8) over the Nittany Lions of Penn State Schuylkill (1-3) 1-0 on Friday afternoon.
Although it was a scoreless first-half, both teams were able to creating scoring opportunies. However, in the second-half, the Patriots found an offensive spark, gathering 15 shot attempts and a score. First-year
Jacquelyn Smith struck the goal for the Patriots on a cross from
Cayleen Conrad and a touch pass from
Haven Mayhew. The Lions would charge out of desperation but the Patriot defense would shutout any chances, finalizing the score 1-0.
Goalkeeper
Ashley Depointe gathered five crucial saves on the match, earning her second clean sheet of the season.
"It was a slow first-half, but we were able to rally in the second to get the result," associate head coach
Kelsey Morrison stated. "Again, key saves from Ashley kept us in the game, and with a clean sheet."
The Patriots will be back at home as they are set to face NCAA Division II opponent Lincoln University on Tuesday, October 8
th at 3:30 p.m.
