Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Soccer team battled it out with the Knights of Central Penn College, ultimately drawing 2-2 at the end of double overtime on Senior Day.
On a gloomy Saturday evening, the weather made it quite difficult for each team to find a lift in their lead. With an extremely physical game at hand, the Patriots committed 19 fouls, including one yellow, while Central Penn gathered 16 fouls and two yellows of their own.
The Knights were able to create an early lead from a score within the first two minutes of the game. However, the Patriots found an offensive drive, finding themselves on the scoreboard with a goal from
Mathurin Allawai, assisted by
Daniel Ngabo. Valley Forge would sneak in another goal from
Colton Swan, assisted by
Bryan Ardon to give the Patriots the 2-1 advantage in the 36
th minute.
With a one goal benefit, Valley Forge attempted to maintain their lead, but the Knights would navigate their way through the Patriots defense to tie the match 2-2. Although both squads were able to generate a few shot attempts, there were no goals at the end of the regulation, sending the Senior Day match into overtime.
As the sun began to set, each team was eager to secure the golden goal. However, with two talented keepers between the pipes, the score remained a tie after the first overtime.
In similar fashion, the second and final frame looked promising as the Patriots were able to dish out five shot attempts, but were not able to find the back of the net on any, ending the match in a 2-2 draw.
"Although the result was not what we were looking for, it was always fun to go into overtime and battle hard," said head coach
John Badidis. "I look forward to matching up with Central Penn in the years to come."
The Patriots posted a 49-16 shot advantage, with an 11-6 on corners.
Valley Forge will host their final match of the season on Wednesday, October 30
th at 2 p.m. as they face the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton Albany.
