Washington, D.C. – The University of Valley Forge Women's Volleyball team traveled to the Capitol to face the Cannoneers of Pratt Institute and the Tigers of Trinity Washington University. The Patriots dropped their first match of the day to Pratt 3-0 (25-8, 26-24, 25-7), but recovered with a win in their second match over the host team 3-0 (25-6, 25-22, 25-16). With the split, the Patriots move to 4-20 on the season.
Match One: Pratt 3, Valley Forge 0
The Patriots fell in consecutive sets against ACAA foe, Pratt Institute 3-0. Valley Forge finished with an even .000 attacking percentage as they gathered 11 kills and 11 errors out of a shy 35 attempts. The Cannoneers collected an impressive .356 clip, earning 31 kills and only committing 10 errors on 59 attempts.
Kaitlyn Hess led the way in kills (7), with senior
Alexandra Davila collecting two assists.
Chanda Carson made an appearance at the line with three service aces, while libero
Melanie-Ann Torres tallied five digs.
Match Two: Trinity Washington 0, Valley Forge 3
With an early morning loss, the Patriots were determined to end their weekend with a victory. As a team, the Patriots accumulated 22 kills, 17 assists, 18 aces, and 8 digs. Senior
Kaitlyn Hess led the evening in kills (7), aces (6), and digs (3), while junior
Hannah Hawryluk collected eight assists.
The Patriots dominated the Tigers, sweeping all sets 3-0. In addition to the win, captain
Kaitlyn Hess also attained a record breaking moment as she now holds the most career service aces (203) in school history.
The Patriots will look to bounce back as they welcome the Cardinals of York College to Phoenixville on Tuesday, October 22nd at 7 p.m.
