Brooklyn, NY – With a second visit to the Big Apple, the Patriots (2-8) fell short to the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College (3-6-1) 3-0 on Tuesday night.
Brooklyn held a heavy 30-6 shot advantage, and 2-1 on corners. Despite the end result, sophomore goalkeeper
Ashley Depointe held her composure between the pipes with 12 saves.
"It was a tough battle all night long," associated head coach
Kelsey Morrison stated. "The girls played their best first-half of soccer all season. All around we performed at our peak tonight, we had several opportunities on goal, and Ashley came up with several key saves. Overall, we have to be pleased with the effort tonight and expect to see that same intensity and quality the rest of the season."
With a scoreless first-half, the Patriots and Bulldogs were both able to attempt a handful shots. However, with an active and aggressive defense, neither team was able to tally a score.
With the second-half in swing, the Bulldogs struck first at 46:56, creating a 1-0 lead over the Patriots. At 60:30, Brookyln scored again from a goal up the middle.
Haven Mayhew and
Madeline Lacourse both had a scoring opportunity, but could not finish as both shots would be saved by the Bulldogs. Brookyln's third and final goal for the evening came at 68:35, after four consecutive shot attempts and a save from Depointe. Valley Forge would try to make a counter attack but were held off by the Bulldogs for a 3-0 final score.
The Patriots will welcome the Nittany Lions of Penn State Schuylkill to Phoenixville on Friday, October 4
th for an early 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
