Phoenixville, PA – The Patriots Men's Basketball team welcomed the Blood Hounds of John Jay College to UVF on Monday evening. UVF was unable to hold on to a first half lead as John Jay walked away with a 75-66 win.
Offensively the Patriots were led by freshmen
Aaron Hill (Fredericksburg, MD). Hill finished the game with 24 points. Senior
Sean Word (Baltimore, MD) had 17 points and 19 rebounds while fellow senior
Cody Collins added 13 points.
Valley Forge could not have played much better in the first 15 minutes of the first half. The Patriots shot 43% from behind the arc in quarter number one.
Aaron Hill got things rolling for the Patriots when he buried a three to tie the game at 3. After making a stop on the defensive end,
Sean Word found
Steven Eng for a wide open three. The Patriots used a 13-2 run that was capped off by another three by
Steven Eng. UVF jumped out to a 13-5 lead after 5 minutes of play. Valley Forge continued to move the ball well and find the open man. Up by 7, with a little under 10 minutes left to play in the half,
Aaron Hill started to catch fire. Hill would score the Patriots next 13 points to give UVF their biggest lead of the game 35-17. During the first 15 minutes of the first half, Valley Forge played a near perfect game. However, the last 5 minutes went the Blood Hounds way. John Jay managed to erase the Patriots lead and go on a 17-0 run to end the half. Valley Forge led 35-34 at intermission.
The Blood Hounds opened the second half the way they ended the first. John Jay used an 8-0 scoring run to begin the second half and take a 42-35 lead. The Patriots cooled off considerably and were only able to shoot 37% from the field. Valley Forge was unable to hold on as John Jay walked away with a 75-66 win.
