Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Three Patriots Score in Double Figures

Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Basketball team took on the Builders from the Apprentice School.  UVF fell by a final score of 75-64 on Saturday afternoon.

The Patriots played a strong opening 10 minutes.  Leading by three, Valley Forge went on an 11-0 run that was fueled by senior Cody Collins.  Of those 11 points, Collins accounted for 9 and would finish the game with a team high 22 points.  UVF led 24-10 midway through the first half.  After an Apprentice timeout, the Builders managed to chip away at the Patriot lead.  Apprentice used a 12-0 run to answer and bring the Valley Forge lead all the way down to just 3.  Both teams traded baskets, but with seconds remaining, the Builder's Brandon Joyner was able to knock down a three from the corner to tie the game at 34 heading into halftime.

With the Patriots in foul trouble early in the second half, the Builders were able to take advantage and work the ball inside.  The Builder's Drew Walton scored a game high 26 points with most of his damage being done down low.  Apprentice built an 11-point lead halfway through the second half.    At the 10:39 mark, the Patriots received back to back layups from Cody Collins and Aaron Hill and after free throws from Sean Word and Rafael Smith, Valley Forge trailed by just 4.  The Builders pushed the lead to 6 when Drew Walton knocked down a pair of free throws.  Things got interesting with just over 7 minutes to play.  Senior Edgar Ruiz buried a three to bring the Patriots to within 3 at 57-54.  UVF, however was unable to narrow the gap any closer.  The Apprentice School was pushed their lead to double-digits and went on to win by a final score of 75-64.
