Bryn Mawr, PA – The University of Valley Forge Women's Volleyball team traveled to Bryn Mawr, PA for a tri-match against the Goucher College Gophers and the host, Bryn Mawr College Owls. The Patriots went on to lose to Goucher 3-0 and Bryn Mawr 3-1.
Although the Patriots fell 3 sets to 1, Both teams were evenly matched. Only 2 kills would separate the Patriots and Owls. The diference came from behind the service line. Bryn Mawr converted on 15 aces throughout the 4 set match.
UVF vs. Bryn Mawr
Down 22-15 late in the set #1, the Patriots regrouped. Thanks to the serving of
Lindsay LeSueur, UVF managed to go on a 5-0 run to climb back into the set. With the score 22-20, Bryn Mawr won the next point to make the score 23-20. Valley Forge continued to be resilient. After an Owl attack error and a kill by
Mariah Straker, the Patriots were down only by 1 at 23-22. A Patriot error and a kill by Bryn Mawr's Sienna Burnett put the set away for the Owls. UVF fell in set #1 by a score of 25-22.
It would be the Patriots turn to lead late in set #2. UVF led by a score of 21-20 after reeling off three straight points. Following a Bryn Mawr timeout, the Owls forced a UVF error to tie the game at 21. The Patriot's
Mariah Straker gave Valley Forge a huge kill and followed by a Bryn Mawr error, the Patriots led 23-21. Unfortunately for Valley Forge, they would were unable to close out the set. The Owls ended the set on a 4-0 scoring run to win set #2 by a score of 25-23.
UVF jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead thanks to the serving of
Hannah Hawkryluk and two kills from
Megan Freed. The Patriots continued to play well in the third set and never relinquished the lead. UVF stayed alive and won set #3 by a final score of 25-20.
With the score tied at 11, The Owls went on a 7-0 to push their lead to 18-11. After trading points, the Patriots answered with a 9-2 run that was capped off by a kill from the UVF's
Mariah Straker. The Patriots tied the set at 22. Bryn Mawr went on to score the next 3 of 4 points to close out the match. Bryn Mawr won by a score of 25-23.
UVF vs. Goucher
Goucher was a tough opponent and took down the Patriots by scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-12. UVF was led defensively by
Lindsay LeSueur with 9 digs and
Megan Freed with 8.
Megan Freed led the offense with 5 kills. UVF will look to get back in the win column when they travel to Cedar Crest College on Wednesday, September 12th.
