Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Soccer team took on the Blue Angels from the College of New Rochelle on a Monday afternoon. After nearly making a second half comeback, the Patriots went on to lose by a final score of 4-3.

Jacob Kelley almost immediately. CNR's Rolando Oseguera broke through the defense and had a one on one opportunity. UVF's
Jacob Kelley made a big save from point blank range to keep CNR off the scoreboard. Five minutes later, The Blue Angels had another chance and this time they were able to capitalize. Marcelo Furchi scored the first goal of the afternoon to make the score 1-0 in favor of New Rochelle.
Valley Forge had chances throughout the first half. The Patriots had three good looks in space but all three shots sailed over the crossbar. In the 33rd minute however, UVF answered.
Brandon Nyekan dribble down the right side and all the way into the box. Once the Blue Angel defender closed, Nyken found
Jesus Jimenez who's shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and trickled into the back of the net. The Patriots tied the game and the score at the half would remain 1-1.
CNR scored two quick goals in the opening moments of the second half and would add a third second half goal in the 63rd minute. It seemed as though the College of New Rochelle would cruise to a 4-1 victory. Playing like a team who was desperate to get back into the game, Valley Forge began to move the ball and create chances. In the 75th minute and on the attack, UVF pushed the ball into their offensive end of the field.
Nicholas Turick crossed the ball from the right side of box to the left side of the box and his pass was right on target. Turick's cross found
Velkin Escobar. Escobar placed hit shot into the bottom right corner of the net for the Patriots second goal of the game. With the Patriots now down 4-2, UVF needed to continue to be on the attack. Valley Forge put another goal on the board in the 87th minute. Brandon Nykekan picked up his second assist of the game when he put a pass right onto the foot of
Velkin Escobar. Escobar beat the CNR keeper for his second goal of the game. The Patriots trailed 4-3. Unfortunately for the Patriots, time was not on their side and as the clocked hit zero the score remained 4-3 in favor of the College of New Rochelle. It was an exciting and gutsy comeback that just fell short. The Patriots will turn their attention to Berkley College (NJ). Both teams will square off on Thursday, September 27th. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 PM.
