Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Nyekan and Escobar score in Patriots Win Over Pratt

Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Soccer team welcomed the Cannoneers of Pratt Institute to UVF on Saturday afternoon.  The Patriots picked up their second win on the year by beating Pratt 3-2.

The Valley Forge offense came to life on Saturday afternoon.  Even though the score remained 0-0 heading into halftime, there was feeling that UVF would be able to break through in the second half.  The Patriots had 5 shots on goal in the first half and out shot the Cannoneers 8-3.

As the second half began, the Patriots started to have some fun.  In the 53rd minute, Brandon Nyekan found Velkin Escobar who then dribbled around the Pratt keeper.  Escobar put the ball in the back of the net for his third goal of the year and the Patriots 1st of the afternoon.  The Cannoneers came close to knotting up the score, but a header from Diego De La Hoz sailed high.

The Patriots finally had a ball bounce their way.  In the 73rd minute, a shot from Velkin Escobar deflected off of the Pratt keeper.  Brandon Nyekan was in the right place at the right time.  Nyken took a shot off the rebound that hit the post and bounced into the back of the net for his first goal of the year.  The Patriots led 2-0 with 26 minutes remaining.

UVF found pay dirt again.  This time in the 77th minute.  Jimmy Lee lined up a corner kick and sailed it into the middle of the box.  After a scramble to control the ball, the Patriots Brandon Nyekan came away with it and would score his 2nd goal of the game.  The Patriots led 3-0 with 22:30 remaining on the clock.

The game started to get tense.  After a yellow card was assessed and a penalty kick awared, Pratt's Natt Slober converted the PK to give Pratt their first goal of the afternoon.  The Patriots lead was 3-1.
Moments later, Jacob Kelley came up with a big save but the deflection went right to Pratt's Ofer Shouval.  Shouval was able to score and give the Cannoneers a little bit of hope with just 6 minutes remaining.  The Patriots were able to tightened on defense and close out the game. UVF took down Pratt Institute by a final score of 3-2.
