Dover, DE – The University of Valley Forge Women's Volleyball team crossed state lines to take on The Shock of Washington Adventist University and the host, The Wolverines of Wesley College.
UVF vs. Wesley College
The Patriots struggled to keep pace with Wesley throughout the 3 games. The Wolverines took big leads in all three sets and won by scores of 25-9, 25-11, and 25-13. Offensively, UVF was led by Megan Freed with 7 kills. Kaitlyn Hess added 12 assists.
UVF vs. Washington Adventist
After facing 5 tough opponents over the weekend, UVF needed to get back in the win column. The Patriots took on a pesky team in Washington Adventist.
Offensively, the Patriots were led by Kaitlyn Hess. Hess added 20 assists in the Patriots sweep of the Shock. Her Career assist total currently sits at 978. Kaitlyn is just 22 assists shy of 1,000 for her career.
Valley Forge came out with a vengeance to start the match. The Patriots used a 15-2 run to open up a 16-4 lead. Megan Freed recorded 4 kills during the Patriots scoring outburst. Kaitlyn Hess closed out the dominating set with a kill to give the Patriots a first set win 25-10.
Set #2 saw both teams trade points and with the scored tied at 9, a kill by Kaitlyn Hess seemed to ignite the Patriot offense. UVF went on a 10-2 run thanks to the service of Kaitlyn Hess and Lindsay LeSueur. LeSueur recorded 2 of her 3 aces in the Patriots scoring run. Valley Forge led 19-11 and went on to win the second set by a final score of 25-18.
Midway through the third set, UVF found themselves down 17-13. Even down 2 sets to 0, Adventist never gave up. The Patriots forced a shock attack error then received kills from Mariah Straker and Megan Freed. After another shock attack error, Mariah Straker came up with a big service ace to give the Patriots the lead at 18-17. Both teams would again trade points. With the score 23-22 in favor of UVF, Hannah Hawkryluk nailed a service ace and Megan Freed finished off the 3 set sweep with a her 11th kill of the match. The Patriots won set #3 by a final score of 25-23.
