Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bears Too Much For Patriots

Phoenixville, PA - The University of Valley Forge Men's Soccer team played host to the Bears of Saint Joseph College (Brooklyn).  The Bears used a big second half to pull away and win by a final score of 5-1.

Saint Joseph broke through on the scoreboard in the 11th minute on a goal by Mateusz Georges.  Georges was assisted by Kenneth Garcia.  Kenneth Garcia scored the second goal for the Saint Josephs.  The Patriots played a strong half and the results could have been different.  In the 13th minute, Zachary House nearly tied the game, but his header sailed high.  In the 36th minute, Jimmy Lee chipped a shot to beat the Saint Joseph's keeper, however, the ball hit the post to deny the Patriots their first goal.  The score at the half tilted in favor of the Bears 2-0.

UVF continued to have chances.  In the 57th minute, the Patriots broke through.  Velkin Escobar broke through the Bear defense but was pulled down from behind just as he crossed inside the box.  After a yellow card was given, Escobar lined up his penalty kick.  Velkin drilled the ball past the Saint Joseph's keeper for the Patriots first goal of the game and his second of the year.  After Escobar's goal, the Patriots trailed 2-1.  The Patriots penalty kick seemed to wake up Saint Joseph College.  The Bears scored goals in the 61st minute, the 62nd minute, and the 64th minute.  It was too much for Valley Forge to overcome and the Patriots fell by a final score of 5-1.
