Washington, D.C. – The University of Valley Forge Men's Baseball team (0-2) traveled to Gallaudet University (2-0) to kick off the 2018 baseball season. The Patriots dropped the double header against the Bison's by the score of 6-0 and 5-1.
Game 1
The Patriots were led in game one on the mound by Shashwat Chitnis who would face twenty-two batters adding two strikeouts. Zach Nunnery relieved Chitnis on the rubber facing 8 batters. Nunnery lead the Patriots at the plate with 2 hits.
The Bison got things rolling in the bottom of the first by scoring 2 runs off of a consecutive fielders choice. Gallaudet put two more run on the scoreboard thanks to a Patriot's passed ball and a timely sacrifice fly. GU built their lead with 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th to make the score 6-0. Ethan Denson got the win the for the Bison. Shashwat Chitnis took the loss for UVF.
Game 2
In the second match-up Bryce Wheary led the Patriots pitching with nineteen batters face to add four strikeouts. Jonas Marte scored the solo run thanks to a sacrifice fly by Bryan Reyes. The Bison would score five runs lead by Kyle Gumm who scored two. Cameron Upton picked up the win for the Bison. Bryce Wheary took the loss for UVF.
Coaches quote: Head Coach Brian Algeo said "Our pitching along with our defense today was fantastic. We made too many mistakes on the bases and just couldn't get the bats going. Overall I'm pleased with the progress we have made as a program but we have a ways to go and a lot to work on. We need to continue to get better every chance we get."
