Patriots Stumble Against Highlanders


LANGHORNE, Pa. - The University of Valley Forge Patriots (0-2) traveled to Cairn University (1-1) to battle the Highlanders in a double-header.  

Game 1: Highlanders 15, Patriots 4

Game Summary – The Patriots struggled at the plate through the first 5 innings as Cairn mounted a commanding lead 13-1. The Highlanders made a pitching change in the 6th inning which sparked the Patriots to score 3 runs on 2 hits. Cody Rak started the inning off with a single drive to center field, Waldo Odens Jr. was hit by a pitch and a Reyes walk set the Patriots up for  bases loaded. Zachary Nunnery would as well be walked to give the Patriots their 2nd run. The Patriots crossed the plate two more times with help from Marcus Fultz and Bryce Wheary who batted in Odens Jr. and Reyes. The Highlanders came on strong at the plate through the game. Cairn scored 15 runs, adding 15 hits, scoring 4 runs in two separate innings led by Nathan Wilson, Mason Mckinley and Alejandro Hernandez.
 
Inside the Box Score – The Patriots were led by Cody Rak at the plate with 1 hit and 1 run. Bryan Reyes scored 2 runs for the Patriots. Cairn had three players combine for 9 hits and 5 runs. The Patriots were held to 2 hits for the game while the Highlanders mounted 15 total. The two hits were from the Sophomores Cody Rak and Bryce Wheary.
 
Game 2: Highlanders 12, Patriots 1

Game Summary – The Patriots started strong to start the second game with 3 hits and 1 run scored in the first. After stealing second base and advancing to third from Cody Rak's fly out, Jonas Marte scored from an RBI hit by Bryan Reyes single down third base. Struggles then continued into game two as Cairn controlled the matchup. The Highlanders struck with a pair of 2 run homers in the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd inning to add 4 runs to their existing 3-1 lead. Wild pitches would continue the Patriots miscues giving up 2 runs for Cairn. The Patriots scored 1 run on a total of 6 hits. The Highlanders continued their consistent hitting and close out the game by a score of 12-1.
 
Game Summary – The Patriots were by Bryan Reyes who batted 2-3 with an RBI. Cairn's Emilio Alvarez led the Highlanders with 2 hits, 3 runs and an RBI. The Patriots committed 4 errors. The Highlanders left 7 players on base and amounted for 1 error in the field.
