Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Basketball team concluded their 2017-2018 regular season against the Vikings of Villa Maria College on Saturday afternoon.  The Patriots went on to lose to by a final score of 81-72.

The Patriots (3-16) were led offensively by senior Alex Sanchez.  Sanchez finished with 29 points and 11 rebounds.  Todd James added 17 points for UVF.

Villa Maria (22-5) had 4 player score in double figures.  Lonnie Taylor led the team with 10 points, Jay Scarbrough had 17, Justin Stokes added 14 and Daniel Thompson had 13 points off the bench for the Vikings. 

With the score tied at 14 with just under 12 minutes remaining, The Patriot's Emanuel Toms made back to back layups and following another layup by Sean Word the Patriots led by 6 (20-14).  The Vikings managed to use an 11-3 run that gave them the lead 25-21 with 6:55 to play in the half.  Neither team never led or trailed by more than 6 points throughout the closely contested half.  The Patriots found themselves down by 5 with 1:00 minute left to play.  Alex Sanchez scored on an easy layup and Todd James nailed a 3 to tie the game at 39 apiece as both team headed for the locker room. 

As the second half began, both teams traded baskets over the course of the first five minutes of play.  With 15:18 to play, the Viking's Justin Stokes made consecutive layups and along with another layup from Jonathon Pozo pushed the Villa Maria lead to 6 (53-47).  That would be all the Vikings would need to put away Valley Forge.  The Patriots lost by a final score of 81-72.
