Patriots Fall to Owls in Conference Semifinal

Chesnut Hill, MA – The University of Valley Men's Basketball team traveled to Chesnut Hill, MA to take on the University of Maine Presque Isle Owls in the first game of the semifinals in the ACAA Conference Championship.
 
The Patriots (3-17) were led on offense by Alex Sanchez with 20 points.  Emanuel Toms added 10 and Arthur Wilborn added 11 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Owls (13-13) had 3 players score in double figures: Kevin Collins had 21 points and 7 rebounds, Maurice Harris added 17 points and 9 rebounds while Kim Collins had 17 points and 6 boards.
 
The Patriots were down by as many as 7 in the early stages of the first half but at the 10 minute mark, UVF began to settle into their offense and were able to chip away at the Owl lead.  After an easy layup from Emanuel Toms and two Arthur Wilborn free throws, the Patriots took held 21-19 lead.  The Patriots went on a 16-0 run that was capped off by a long distance 3 from Alex Sanchez that gave Valley Forge a 31-19 lead with 5:45 left to play in the half.  UVF was able to control the tempo and force difficult shots on the defensive end of the floor.  UVF went into halftime with a 36-25 lead.     
 
UMPI used a big 16-3 run to open the second half and immediately erase an 11 point deficit to  take a 2 point lead.  Both teams battled back and forth by trading baskets on both ends of the floor.  The second half saw 6 ties and 5 lead changes.  Leading by 3 with 2:11 left to play, the Owls were able to put the game away.  UMPI closed out the game with a 10-0 to end the Patriot's season by a final score of 70-60.
