Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Patriots Suffer Loss to Adventist

Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Basketball team took on the Shock of Washington Adventist University on Wednesday evening.  The Patriots lost by a final score of 77-70.

The Patriots (3-15) were led on offense by senior Alex Sanchez with 24 points and 11 rebounds.  Sean Word added 14 points and 12 rebounds while Emanuel Toms had 10 points for UVF.

The Shock (10-13) were led by the combination of Elijah Maynard (21 pts) and Juwaun Wilson (21 pts, 14 rebounds).

UVF started the game well and controlled the tempo.  At the 16:31 mark of the first half, the Patriots went on a 10-0 run that would give them a 9-point lead midway through the half.  Adventist answered with an 11-2 run of their own that tied the game at 19 with 6:00 minutes remaining.  UVF seemed to take control and began to pull away.  Sean Word muscled through the defense and somehow laid the ball up and in.  On the Patriots following possession Word again would convert on a tough layup in traffic.  The back to back layups sparked a 15-4 Patriots run and UVF would go into halftime with a 39-29 lead.

It was a tale of two halves'.  Washington Adventist was able to chip away at the Patriot lead and tie the game at 51 with 12:23 remaining.  The Shock built a 7-point lead thanks to the combination of Elijah Maynard and Juwaun Wilson.  With 5:35 left, the Patriots needed to get something going on offense.  Senior Alex Sanchez drove to the lane and laid the ball softly off the glass for the bucket to cut the Shock lead to 5.  Moments later Sean Word made a layup followed by another Sanchez jumper.  UVF cut the Adventist lead to just 1 with 3:53 left to play.  With 2:16 remaining, Valley Forge had a hard time finding the bottom of the net.  The Patriots would finish the game 1-5 from the field.  Washington Adventist sealed the game at the free throw line and went on to win 77-70.
