Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Basketball team played host to the Lions of Penn State Schuylkill on Monday evening. The Patriots fell by a final score of 85-75.
Offensively, the Patriots were led by the hot shooting of
Aaron Hill. Hill came off the bench and went 10-18 from the field including 8-15 from long range which was good for 30 points.
Cody Collins added 13 points and
Samuel Smith had 11 for Valley Forge.
Down by 9 with 5 minutes remaining in the half,
Aaron Hill started to heat up. Hill buried a three to bring the Patriots to within six. Moments later,
Bennie Howard Jr made a layup and
Aaron Hill would again deliver from behind the arc. After a
Samuel Smith layup, the Patriots 10-0 run put UVF up 35-34 with 3:30 remaining in the first half. PSU Schuylkill however, was able to close out the first half with a 5-0 run to head into the half with a slight advantage 39-35.
After the Lions stretched their lead to 12 with 11 minutes remaining, the Patriots clawed their way back.
Samuel Smith made 1 of 2 free throws and on the Patriots next possession, Smith grabbed an offensive rebound and put the ball back up and in. Follwing a Lion three, Hill knocked down back to back treys to bring the Patriots to within 4 with 10 minutes left on the clock. Unfortunately for Valley Forge, that would be as close as they would come. The Lions shot 50% from behind the three-point line to propel them to an 85-75 win. The Patriots fall to 1-7 on the year.
