Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Patriots Comeback Falls Short

Delhi, NY – The Patriots Women's Basketball team traveled to Delhi, NY to take on the Broncos of Suny Delhi on Saturday afternoon.  Valley Forge cut the Bronco lead to two with under a minute to play, but a big layup by Delhi would seal the win for the Broncos.  Valley Forge lost on the road by a score of 80-76.

Offensively, the Patriots had five players score in double figures.  UVF was led by Jhanel Brown with 18 points and 11 rebounds for her 4th double-double of the year.  Cayleen Conrad added 16 points including going 4-7 from long range.  Kaitlyn Hess had 12 points off the bench and Amaya Brown and Alea Flowers each recorded 10 points for Valley Forge.

Leading 8-4 in the first quarter, the Broncos used a 9-2 run to stretch their lead to 15-6.  With 4:29 remaining on the clock, UVF's Cayleen Conrad nailed a three to stop the Bronco run and bring the Patriots to within 6.  That would be the difference as quarter #1 came to a close.  Suny Delhi led by a score of 19-13.

Cayleen Conrad had the hot hand in the second quarter.  Conrad knocked down 3 three pointers to take care of the Patriots scoring in the first 5 minutes to keep Valley Forge within striking distance.  Moments later, Carlee Conrad knocked down a pair of free throws with just under 5 minutes remaining in the half to bring UVF to within 3 at 27-24.  The Broncos closed out the half with a 9-2 run.  Suny Delhi led at the half by a score of 38-28.

With both team trading baskets for the better part of the 3rd quarter, Suny Delhi continued to hold the slight advantage.  After 3 quarters of play, the Broncos led 58-49.
Suny Delhi led by as many as 16 in the 4th quarter.  That didn't stop the Patriots from believing they could make a comeback.  With only 3:30 left on the clock UVF needed to make a run and they did just that.  UVF's Jhanel Brown grabbed an offensive rebound and put the ball back up and in.  Brown's rebound would ignite a 13-0 Patriot run.  Valley Forge trailed by just 3 with 58 seconds remaining.  After the Broncos split a pair of free throws, the Patriot's Jhanel Brown made a big layup to bring Valley Forge to within 2 with 45 seconds left in the game.  Unfortunately, Suny Delhi made a layup to go up by 4 and the Patriots were unable to complete the comeback.  UVF lost by a final score of 80-76.
