Media, PA – The Patriots Women's Basketball team went on the road for a game against the Lions of Penn State Brandywine. After a hard fought effort, the Patriots fell by a final score of 72-67.
Offensively, Valley Forge was led Senior
Jhanel Brown (Westmoreland, VA) with 21 points and 12 rebounds. That was Brown's 2nd double-double on the young season. Junior
Carlee Conrad (Pine Grove, PA) added 15 points and 5 assists while sophomore
Cayleen Conrad (Pine Grove, PA) had 11 points.
The Lions opened the game with a quick 5-0 run but a Patriot's free throw by
Jhanel Brown and a three from
Carlee Conrad brought the score to 5-4. UVF continued to match Branydwine bucket for bucket and would take an 8-7 lead thanks to an old fashion three-point play by
Jhanel Brown. After a 6-0 Lion scoring run and two minutes left in the first quarter,
Amaya Brown connected on a layup and moments later, a jumper to bring the score to 16-14 in favor of PSU Brandywine. The Lions were able to add a layup in the closing minute and take an 18-14 lead after 1 period of play.
Brandywine continued to hold a slight lead midway through the 2nd quarter 24-21. The Patriots were able to retake the lead thanks to three consecutive layups by
Carlee Conrad,
Jhanel Brown. Valley Forge took a 27-24 lead with 5 minutes remaining in the half. Both teams battled and traded baskets but with 1-minute remaining, the Lions used a 6-0 run to go into halftime with a 35-31 lead.
Every time the Patriots managed to erase a deficit the Lions had an answer. Brandywine was able to turn 26 Patriot turnovers into 36 points. The Lions also won the rebound battle by grabbing 20 offensive rebounds. UVF fell by a final score of 72-67.
