Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bulldogs Slip By Patriots in Home Opener

Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Basketball team welcomed the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College to UVF on Saturday afternoon.  The Patriots weren't able to hang on to a second half lead as the Bulldogs slipped by UVF by a final score of 71-67.

Offensively, the Patriots were led by Senior Cody Collins (Oakdale, NY) with 18 points.  Sean Word (Baltimore, MD) added a double-double with 13 points and a game high 22 rebounds.

The Patriots and Bulldogs tangled in what was a closely contested first half.  Midway through the first half, Brooklyn College managed to build a small 5 point lead.  Valley Forge quickly erased the deficit thanks for three consecutive layups from Cody Collins.  The Patriots erased a 5-point Bulldog lead to go up 22-21.  Both teams continued to trade baskets over the remaining 5 minutes of the first half.  The Patriots' Aaron Hill capped off the Valley Forge scoring with a layup to make the halftime score 31-30 in favor of Brooklyn College.

As the second half began, the Patriots' Sean Word proved that not only can he rebound and score from the inside but he can shoot the long ball.  Word opened up the second half by draining two consecutive treys to give UVF a 36-33 lead.  In total, Valley Forge used a 16-5 run to open up what would be their biggest lead of the game.  With the score 51-43 at the 13:06 mark, things were looking up for the Patriots.  Unfortunately for UVF, ball security became an issue.  The Patriots turned the ball over 7 times over the remaining 13 minutes.  The Bulldogs were able to capitalize and come all the way back and win by a final score of 71-67.
