Jamaica, NY – The University of Valley Forge Women's Soccer team traveled to Jamaica, NY for a game against the Cardinals of York College. After being knotted at 0-0 at the end of regulation, the Patriots won a thriller in overtime to win by a score of 1-0.
The Patriots and Cardinals played a tight defensive game. Neither team was able to break through the opponent defense. UVF's
Alondra Hernandez-Garduno drilled a shot in the 11th minute but was blocked by the York defense. When York College was able to break out towards goal, Patriot's keeper
Giselle Rojas came out of goal multiple times and took the ball off of the striker's foot. The Patriots and Cardinals went into halftime tied at 0-0.
As the second half began, The Patriots came out and played with energy. UVF nearly broke the scoreless tie in the 52nd minute.
Ashley Depointe took a shot from 25 yards out that just missed going into the goal. Depointe's shot hit the crossbar and went out of play. At the end of regulation, the score remained 0-0.
It didn't take long for a decision to be made in overtime.

Alondra Hernandez-Garduno outran the Cardinal defense to the ball and found herself one on one against the York keeper. Hernandez-Garduno dribbled around the keeper and nailed the open shot. The Patriots goal gave UVF a 1-0 win over York College (NY).
