Chambersburg, PA – The University of Valley Forge Women's Soccer team went on the road for a game against the Phoenix of Wilson College on Wednesday evening. After a hard fought game in which the score was tied at 0-0 at halftime, the Patriots surrendered 2 late second half goals to lose by a final score of 2-0.
Defensively, the Patriots played a stout first half. Wilson College had multiple chances to put points on the scoreboard but were unable to convert. Twice the Phoenix saw their shot hit the post. Both teams held each other scoreless as they went into halftime with the score 0-0.
The defensive battle continued for the first 31 minutes of the second half. The Phoenix recorded 8 corner kicks in the second frame. On their 7th, they were able to beat the Patriot defense. In the 81st minute, Wilson's Nora Hardman connected on a header that found the back of the net. Hardman's goal gave the Phoenix a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, Wilson broke through again. Kellyn Perry took a shot from 20 yards out that sailed into the goal. Both the Patriots and Phoenix each had 5 shots on goal throughout the contest but Valley Forge was unable to capitalize. UVF fell by a final score of 2-0.
